As the first phase in the implementation of Graphisoft Park, a human-scale ensemble of three buildings was completed. Here, the architects did not create a rapidly aging design product that would slavishly follow the current fashion trend. Instead, their solution confirmed the possibility of performing contemporary architecture while maintaining the continuity of the tradition being specifically present here.
The choice of the brick cladding proved to be a lucky decision due to its similarity to the material use of the former Óbuda Gas Works in the area. The rental office building, which stands closer to the Danube, becomes somewhat separated from the other two blocks by its simpler massing. The mass of the second building is more dissolved, its two wings are connected by a multi-storey interior space forming a tower from the outside. This house already shows some architectural elements that best characterize the third and largest building. This Graphisoft office building has the most dynamic and most spectacular design, and best features the 20th century precedents (e.g. Bauhaus, de Stijl). However, they do not appear as direct references, but in a very refined way, so that the architectural language of the whole ensemble forms an integral whole. The architects adapted the fragmented building mass to the company’s operation, thus fully meeting the functional requirements. With their high-quality formal compositions, the interior finishes fit well the exposed brick and thermal-bridge-free aluminum doors and windows structure dominating the choice of materials. Both the more distant overall picture and the details are nicely worked out. In summary, it can be concluded that one of the highest quality new office complexes in the capital was developed here. And what makes it really interesting is the well-complemented duality of rationality and poetry.
