Perhaps Graphisoft Park is the last decade’s most successful real estate development area in Budapest; it is also of an outstanding quality by international standards. This development along the Danube is a good example of how to create a new quality with the combination of traditional industrial and contemporary architecture. Building “M” continues and rewrites the architectural traditions of Graphisoft Park at the same time.
In addition to meeting Microsoft's highly bound floor plan requirements, the architects designed a strikingly proportionate building mass which, despite its large size, is able to reflect on the scale of the surrounding buildings with its articulation. In contrast to the more articulated older projects that accommodate smaller, divided office spaces, in the new building there was a demand for large, open-plan office spaces. The house consists of two main units, which are connected by an airy, light bridge. The multi-level high hall serves as a highlight of both parts of the building, from where the office spaces, organized along the central circulation and service zone, are started. Lightwells and courtyards make the interior light and airy, and at the same time provide exciting insights. Similarly to the previous buildings, brick is used on the façade here again, but it does not adapt the red shade. Its harsher, brownish-gray appearance brings something back from the industrial, raw nature of the historic site into our present. The dark brick cubes arranged side by side are dissolved by the divisions and colored glass inserts in the large openings, and the green and water surface of the carefully landscaped park around the building. The colors used on the exterior return in the interiors too. The choice of materials is uniform, performing a consistent quality in line with the high expectations of the client.
