The building is one of the components in the exemplary rehabilitation of the central Ferencváros. Among the old buildings retained during the project, this one belongs to the exceptions in which the original siting character of an enclosed inner courtyard has been preserved. Thus, the house exudes an unadulterated ‘Franzstadt’ atmosphere immediately upon entering the inner courtyard.
The architects not only intended to increase the value in use, but also placed great emphasis on saving cultural values. The interior reconstruction was complete and comprehensive, so today the converted apartments meet modern standards and needs in all respects. The building was reconstructed to the right extent (complete interior conversion, new façade on the firewall), while the designers managed to fully preserve the original character and special atmosphere. For these virtues, the building was found worthy of being recognized by the Budapest Award for Architectural Excellence.
